"It is my great pleasure to invite scholars and interested people from all over the world to attend the international conference “Influence of Air Pollution and Climate Change on Forest Dynamics” which will be held in Croatia from 1 to 5 September 2025. In the event, exchanged research and data discussion related to health, environmental and global sustainability will be provided. I sincerely hope that this conference will impress all the participants."

Tamara Jakovljević, PhD, Scientific Advisor, an expert in assessment and monitoring of air pollution effects on forest, environmental chemistry and biotechnology, head of laboratory, co-chair of International Co-operative Programme on Assessment and Monitoring of Air Pollution Effects on Forests (ICP Forests) Working group on quality assurance and control, member of ICP Forests expert panels on air quality, soil and atmospheric deposition. She is an officeholder in the International Union of Forest Research Organizations (IUFRO) Division 8 Forest Environment and Deputy Coordinator in Unit 8.04.03 “Atmospheric deposition, soils and nutrient cycles.”

"I am pleased to invite you to the conference “Influence of Air Pollution and Climate Change on Forest Dynamics”, to be held in Split, Croatia, September 1-5, 2025, under the umbrella of the 32nd Biennial Conference of the IUFRO - Research Group “Air Pollution and Climate Change”. This conference will bring together leading international experts and researchers to improve our understanding of the complex interactions between air pollution, climate change and forest ecosystems through discussions, joint sessions, and knowledge exchange. The conference will not only provide an exceptional platform for scientific exchange but also the opportunity to explore the cultural and natural beauty of Split and its surroundings. We look forward to welcoming you in Split."

Lukrecija Butorac is a Scientific Advisor at the Institute for Adriatic Crops and Karst Reclamation in Split, Croatia, where she has headed the Forestry Department since 2013. Her research focuses on Mediterranean forest ecosystems and their adaptation to environmental stresses, as well as soil erosion and restoration of degraded forest areas. Her recent research efforts include the study of atmospheric deposition and ozone levels in Mediterranean forests. She is a member of several organizations, including the Academy of Forestry Sciences, the Croatian Forestry Society and the Croatian Chamber of Forestry and Wood Technology Engineers.

Dr. Ivan Limić

              Dr. Ivan Limić

"Dear colleagues, it is my great pleasure to invite you to participate in the international conference that will take place in Split, Croatia, from 1 to 5 September 2025. This conference offers a unique opportunity for the exchange of knowledge and experience between different disciplines, as collaboration is key to understanding and tackling serious issues such as air pollution and climate change that strongly affect forest ecosystems. Through in-depth discussions, working sessions and the latest research findings, we can jointly develop strategies for the conservation and restoration of forest ecosystems in the context of global challenges. It is important to bring together experts and scientists from around the world to shape the future together and ensure the sustainability of our ecosystems. This conference is also an opportunity to build new collaborations, drive global initiatives and promote dialogue between different areas of research and policy."

Dr Ivan Limić has a PhD in forestry and is a young researcher at the Institute of Adriatic Crops and Karst Reclamation, Department of Forestry, in Split, Croatia. His research is mainly focused on the interaction of air pollution and climate change with forest ecosystems, especially in the Mediterranean region and in pine forest ecosystems. His work addresses the critical issue of atmospheric deposition in these sensitive ecosystems and emphasises its impact on forest health and sustainability. His research involves tracking fluxes and assessing the chemical composition of pollutants that move from the forest canopy, soil solution, forest floor and streamwaters from the atmosphere.

Dr. Pierre Sicard

"There is an urgent need to implement coordinated research among experimentalists, monitoring experts, and modelers in the air quality and climate change domains. This conference offers an excellent example of effective international collaboration in the research of air pollution and forest ecosystems to discuss future strategies and priorities for the coming decade to improve health, sustainability, and productivity of forest systems worldwide."

Pierre Sicard, PhD in Atmospheric Chemistry, is working on air pollution and climate change impacts on forests and on removal capacity of air pollutants by urban trees. Pierre Sicard is involved in numerous national and EU-funded projects as coordinator (e.g., LIFE AIRFRESH) or Principal Investigator and steering committee. He is very active in communication: Deputy Coordinator of the RG 8.04.00 “Air Pollution and Climate Change” under the International Union of Forest Research Organizations (IUFRO); involved as UNECE Expert Panel on Clean Air in Cities and active in the EU Clean Air Forum; Associate Editor of Environmental Research; member of the scientific committee of meetings, > 120 papers, h-index of 46.

Dr. Alessandra De Marco

Dr. Alessandra De Marco

"As Coordinator of the IUFRO Research Group 8.04.00 "Air pollution and Climate Change", I am glad to invite all the experts working on forest ecosystems to our traditional biennial conference. The conference will be a good opportunity to share knowledge and results about air pollution and climate change impacts on forests ecosystems. The conference will touch many different topic such as the impacts of air pollution and climate change in the more sensitive areas of the world and in the same time less monitored, i.e. underdeveloped countries. I look forward to meeting you in Split."

Alessandra De Marco is a biologist, researcher in Italian National Agency for New Technologies, Energy and Sustainable Economic Development (ENEA), where she is responsible of the Section of Technology transfer to developing countries relating to climate change. Since 2014, officeholder in IUFRO, from October 2019 coordinator of RG 8.04.00. Since 2018 vice-chair of Working Group on Effects under LRTAP convention. Main interest fields are: climate change and air pollution interactions, and their synergistic impacts on natural and anthropogenic ecosystems; integrated assessment modeling to estimate beneficial effects of policies and measures to reduce air pollution; modeling air quality and its impacts on ecosystems; impacts of urban forest in improving air quality.

"On behalf of all organisers, we are pleased to welcome you at the conference and wish you a very fruitful event."
We are also looking forward to meeting you in Split where you can enjoy ancient architecture, culture, gastronomy and a beauty of Adriatic coast.
